we've officially made it to page 208, and I'm getting more invested in Penny Darling and Jake “Monty” Montgomery's story!

What started as a cozy little fall romance with a charming bookstore, a book-loving heroine, and her tattooed childhood best friend is turning into the kind of story that makes me want to curl up with a blanket, grab my coffee, and keep turning the pages.

And can we talk about Monty for a second? 👀🔥

Dark hair. Black glasses. Tattooed forearms. Green eyes. An author. AND a childhood best friend?

Penny Darling & Her Bookish Heart

One of the things that initially drew me into this story was Penny's love for romance books and her cozy bookstore, Bonfire & Bliss.

There's something relatable about a woman who can lose herself in fictional love stories but finds opening her own heart a little more complicated.

And honestly? That's part of what makes me want to keep reading.

🤓 Jake “Monty” Montgomery — The Bookish Heartthrob

Monty had my attention from the moment he returned to Hope Harbor.

I love the idea of a romance hero who isn't just attractive but also shares a meaningful history with the heroine.

The childhood-best-friends connection adds another layer to their relationship. It's not simply about discovering someone new. It's about the possibility of seeing someone you've known forever in a completely different light.

And those glasses and tattoos certainly aren't hurting his case. 😂🔥

💕 Penny + Monty — Friends or Something More?

One of my favorite romance tropes is childhood friends-to-lovers.

There's something about years of memories, inside jokes, familiarity, and feelings that may have gone unspoken that makes a romance feel especially meaningful.

Add fake dating into the mix, and suddenly every little interaction has the potential to become something more.

Because pretending to be in love with someone you've known forever? What could possibly go wrong? 😂💘

The fake-dating tension is STILL BUILDING! 😂

And the PINING?! I'm here for it!

The lingering tension. The unspoken feelings. The possibility that maybe, just maybe, this whole fake-dating situation isn't feeling quite so fake anymore. 👀

Because how are you supposed to pretend to date someone when there's already so much history between you?!

The slow burn is still burning, and I'm loving the anticipation!

It's the emotional tension and the will-they-won't-they energy that's keeping me invested right now.

Because sometimes the pining, the anticipation, and the moments leading up to that first real romantic breakthrough are just as good as the spice itself.

The fake dating might be pretend, but these butterflies certainly aren't! 🦋💕

What I'm most interested in now is how Penny and Monty's relationship continues to evolve.

Can a friendship survive when the feelings become something more?

And what happens when pretending starts feeling a little too real?

My biggest question at Page 208:

When Penny and Monty finally have to face what's happening between them, will they be brave enough to risk the friendship they've always known for the love they might have been missing all along? 💕
