🌿Thriving with Celiac Disease: Summer Edition :
"Your body is a gift from God. Caring for it is an act of gratitude, not perfection."
Summer has always been one of my favorite seasons.
Long beach days.
Fresh fruit.
Golden sunsets.
Reading outside with a good book.
Morning walks and slow evenings.
But after being diagnosed with Celiac disease, summer started looking a little different.
Cookouts, vacations, ice cream shops, food trucks, and family gatherings suddenly required planning, ingredient labels, and lots of questions.
At first, it felt overwhelming.
Today, I see it differently.
Living with Celiac disease has taught me to become more intentional—not only about what I eat, but how I care for my body, mind, and spirit.
If you're new to gluten-free living or simply looking for fresh ideas this summer, I hope this post encourages you that you can absolutely enjoy the season while feeling your best.
My Journey as a Celiac Warrior!
Receiving a Celiac diagnosis changed my life.
There was a learning curve that included reading every ingredient label, preventing cross-contact, finding restaurants I could trust, and understanding that "just a little gluten" isn't safe.
Some days were frustrating.
Some days felt isolating.
But over time I learned that healing isn't about being perfect.
It's about making one healthy choice after another.
I'm still learning every day, and that's okay.
One of the greatest lessons I've learned is to give myself grace while creating habits that support my health.
🌿What Is Gut Health?
Your digestive system does so much more than digest food.
A healthy gut helps with:
Nutrient absorption
Energy levels
Immune function
Overall digestive health
Daily well-being
For those of us with Celiac disease, following a strict gluten-free diet is essential to allow the small intestine to heal and reduce ongoing damage. While there's no quick fix, consistent gluten avoidance and a balanced diet can support recovery over time.
My Summer Wellness Routine :
Summer is the perfect time to focus on simple habits that help me feel energized.
My daily routine usually includes:
☀️ Starting the morning with prayer and Bible study
💧 Drinking plenty of water throughout the day
🥗 Building colorful gluten-free meals
🚶 Walking outdoors
🧘 Gentle yoga or stretching
📖 Reading outside
😴 Prioritizing quality sleep
These little habits may seem simple, but together they help me feel more balanced.
🍓My Favorite Gluten-Free Summer Foods
Summer makes healthy eating so much easier.
Some staples you'll always find in my kitchen include:
Fresh strawberries
Blueberries
Honey crisp apples
Pineapple
Cucumbers
Bell peppers
Avocados
Sweet potatoes
Grilled chicken
Steak
Eggs
Greek yogurt (if tolerated)
Rice

Corn on the cob
Fresh herbs
Simple ingredients often create the most satisfying meals.
Mediterranean Chicken Salad
Ingredients:
Grilled chicken breast
Mixed greens
Cherry tomatoes
Cucumbers
Avocado
Crumbled feta (optional)
Olive oil
Lemon juice
Salt
Black pepper
Simply combine everything in a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil and fresh lemon juice.
It's light, refreshing, and perfect for hot summer afternoons.
Summer Celiac Tips
A little preparation can make summer adventures much easier.
Before heading out, I like to:
Pack gluten-free snacks.
Bring a reusable water bottle.
Research restaurant menus ahead of time.
Let friends or family know about my dietary needs.
Carry safe snacks for road trips and beach days.
Read labels carefully every time, since ingredients can change.
Be mindful of cross-contact when eating away from home.
Planning ahead helps me enjoy the moment with less stress.
Caring for Mind, Body & Soul
Living well with Celiac disease isn't only about food.
It's about creating a lifestyle that supports every part of who we are.
For me, that looks like:
Reading encouraging books
Spending time in God's Word
Moving my body
Resting without guilt
Choosing nourishing foods
Practicing gratitude
Extending grace to myself on hard days
Healing is a journey, and every small step matters.
My Favorite Summer Essentials
This season I'm loving:
Insulated water bottle
Beach reading tote
Gluten-free snack containers
Wide-brim hat
Mineral sunscreen
Walking shoes
Yoga mat
A cozy romance novel
My Bible and journal
Fresh flowers on the kitchen table
Simple joys make every season sweeter.
Final Thoughts
If you're living with Celiac disease, I want you to know you're not alone.
There will be days that feel challenging.
There will be moments when you have to ask questions, advocate for yourself, or bring your own meal.
That's okay.
Every choice you make to care for your health is an investment in your future.
